Les proverbes jouent un rôle clé dans l’esthétisation du poro chez les Sénoufo-Nafara de Côte d’Ivoire, en sublimant les rites initiatiques par une parole poétique et symbolique. Pendant la formation au bois sacré, les jeunes, à travers des étapes secrètes dans le bois sacré, transmettent des valeurs, comme le courage, la responsabilité, la solidarité, l’honnêteté et la sagesse. Cette école de la vie utilise les proverbes, transformant l’initiation en expérience esthétique et spirituelle. Aussi, riches en métaphores liées à la nature, aux masques et aux danses, ils servent d’outil pédagogique lors des rituels du poro. Ils esthétisent le discours en le rendant rythmé et imagé, renforçant le secret et la solennité des grades initiatiques. Cette esthétisation s’étend aux motifs artistiques, c’est-à-dire aux sculptures des masques et aux cérémonies de sortie où les proverbes célèbrent la renaissance sociale de l’initié, ornant le corps et l’esprit de beauté symbolique. Cela préserve l’identité en liant l’oralité proverbiale à l’héritage visuel du poro.

Abstract:

Proverbs play a key role in the aestheticization of poro among the Sénoufo-Nafara of Ivory Coast, by sublimating initiation rites with poetic and symbolic words. During training in the sacred wood, young people, through secret stages in the sacred wood, transmit values such as courage, responsibility, solidarity, honesty and wisdom. This school of life uses proverbs, transforming initiation into an aesthetic and spiritual experience. Also, rich in metaphors linked to nature, masks and dances, they serve as an educational tool during poro rituals. They aestheticize the speech by making it rhythmic and colorful, reinforcing the secrecy and solemnity of the initiatory grades. This aestheticization extends to artistic motifs, i.e. mask sculptures, and exit ceremonies where the proverbs celebrate the social rebirth of the initiate, adorning the body and mind with symbolic beauty. This preserves identity by linking proverbial orality to the visual heritage of the poro.
